Hunger Games- Book #1

Well, I started the Hunger Games Saturday Night and finished it early this afternoon. (Yes, I did other things in between). If you are a teen or adult looking for a suspenseful story with lots of twists and turns check it out. The writer Suzanne Collins is a great writer and story teller! When I was not reading I was longing to get back to the story. It was definitely one of those books I could not put down!! I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book!

Here's the premise from the back of the book:
"In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead" (cont'd)

Three Day Weekend

Hurray for Labor Day!! I admit having an extra day brings joy to my heart! I have been as worn out working in the library as  I was teaching Pre-K. I do enjoy the library a lot.
I got to run some fun errands yesterday. I went to Hastings and rented Soul Surfer. I went to Ross looking for something else and splurged on a Carnival Funnel Cake kit! I went to Hobby Lobby and got my Master's Degree framed and bought a frame for my certificate.  Paul was able to do something interestesting last night. One of our little girl's at church was the flower girl in Hennessey's Homecoming. Her parent asked us if he could drive the convertible she and the crown bearer were in around the track for the homecoming procession. Paul did a great job and the kids were so cute!!! We watched them and got to see part of the homecoming game with friends!! We then got some Sonic drinks with Nate and watched Mystery Science Theater "The Final Sacrifice". (It was definitely guy humor. I think I will let them watch that in the future.)
This morning we had a brunch of funnel cakes. (Healthy I know) They were surprisingly easy to make and tasted excellent!! We both think they tasted better than the fair funnel cakes and that is hard to beat. We now are relaxing in our recliners. We watched American Pickers and now are just playing on our computers. We found football on ESPN 3 and hooked it up to our TV. I am now going to search for the Texas Game.

Limeades for Learning progress

Limeades for Learning is going great. Another teacher and I have teamed up with our local Sonic and they are putting information about our grants in customer's bags with their food. We also decided to do a Sticker Contest. This allows the top three students that bring us the most Sonic Stickers to recieve prizes.
We both have over 200 votes and we still have a day or two to vote before the grant is awarded. The first grants will be funded on Monday the 5th. I am hoping we both get funded at the same time!! Thanks for all of the great support!!!!

Library Lessons

Well, I started Library Lessons this week! I had a blast!! I am have definitely stepped into a job I love!! I have learned I need to be more specific on how I have students look for books. My shelves definitely got a little messy so I will do a better job of that next week. I got to know some interesting things about my students and they got to know me. I plan on learning more about the student's reading habit next week and doing some more parts of the book and genre study next week. I must say getting things done is a process. This textbook stuff is craziness, but I think it is almost over. I am loving getting new books out to put on the shelf!! I can't wait to get to do fun things with the kids!!! I will look forward to doing pictures, crafts and games with stories! That will be lots of fun!!
